One of the best part of vacationing in Big Bear is being able to go on hikes around the area. I got into hiking perhaps two years ago and along the way I learned how to relax and become more active. Hiking is a great activity for anyone because you can take a slow and steady pace depending on your fitness level, enjoy the scenic routes, flowers, plants, wild life, and being out there to absorb what nature has to offer.

My friends and my bf decided to try out the Cougar Crest Trail in which the sign says it’ll be 1.9 miles to the end and 1.9 miles back but the round trip total is about 5 miles. Hike time is about 3 hours and the level is about moderate. Elevation gain is 1500 ft so be prepared to breathe harder.

Lots of rocks and trees

We began our hike with no problem and enjoyed the scenery. There were lots of rocks on the trail and there were occasional flat areas. Our hearts started pumping when the trail had many inclines. We had to stop for a breather and the elevation had our lungs working.

As you make your way through the hike, you’ll spot the Big Bear Lake and you will find a picnic bench. Don’t think that’s the end of the trail just yet! There’s a few spots where you can get the view of the lake, but keep going until you get to the end.

We finally made our way to the end of the trail which connects to the Stanfield Cutoff. You will spot a bench and a log where you can sit and rest and also enjoy the view of the Big Bear Lake, but is somewhat hidden by bushes and logs.

If you’re in Big Bear and want to do some outdoor activity, then I highly suggest hiking the Cougar Crest Trail. You won’t be disappointed!
