Holy Mackerel Monday: Miyabitei Mackerel Dish You Need To Try

Holy Mackerel Monday friends! Well it's just another Monday, but there's a reason why I say mackerel and you'll see why. It was raining yesterday so "G" and I went out for dinner. There were so much people at Mitsuwa Marketplace surprisingly, but it was because there was a mini "Street Food" fest at the entrance to the market. Food vendors set up stands roasting delicious warm chestnuts, making takoyaki as well as other Japanese street food, and also a crepes dessert stand.
We had to come back later for dessert but at the moment we were ready to get our grub on! We decided to hit up Miyabitei where"G" got his usual Chicken Katsu Curry, and I decided to be adventurous and ordered the Mackerel. I used to think the Mackerel Plate was more expensive compared to the Curry dish but they're both 6.75. Unfortunately the restaurant has put up a sign stating that their menu prices will be going up. But look at all the food I got for only 6.75. I would say that a pretty dang good deal and dining like royalty  😉

The mackerel looks small but it is plenty. The fish is delicious as it was fried, not too salty, and has a nice savory flavor to it.The plate comes with a side of thinly sliced cabbage, pickled ginger, pickles, a  big bowl of rice, miso soup, and a tiny potato salad. Be sure to add the awesome tangy Japanese salad dressing to the side of cabbage salad. I added some soy sauce to my rice and I typically don't use it on my rice, but decided to anyways.

Next time you're here, don't overlook the Mackerel place as it is easy to do so since curry is the main attraction. The fish is delicious and you won't be disappointed if you like seafood!

We really wanted to try the crepes dessert but it was too expensive and not really worth it. For a crepe with whipped cream, strawberries, and chocolate syrup, it was 5.50. If you wanted a scoop of vanilla ice cream, it would've been 6. We thought meh, so in the end we just got the Maeda-En Black Sesame Mochi. So worth it and cheaper =)
Miyabitei is located at the Mitsuwa Marketplace 665 Paularino Avenue Costa Mesa, CA 92626.
