Wursthaus Gastro Pub Hidden In Santa Ana CA

If you’re looking for gourmet German food with good beer, then you have to check out Wursthaus. And no, it’s not the worst house, get it? This gastropub is located in downtown Santa Ana CA so you don’t have to drive through the hectic streets of LA to have something gourmet.

Parking is pretty difficult to snag in front of the place, but there’s a parking lot where you pay $1.50 for 2 hours near the theater and Playground Restaurant. There were plenty of parking spaces there and the walk to Wursthaus isn’t far.

I’m not a big fan of ordering up front instead of getting seating with the waiter/waitress taking our orders. But what can you do. There’s a counter right at the entrance where you order your bratwurst to their exotic meats. Choose the type of sausage, bun, and two toppings.

I believe you can order your non alcoholic drinks up front as well but don’t worry, the bar is in the back of the room where you can order your beer and wait for your food.

I had to take a picture of this “Today’s The Whurst” sign where they list the sausages that are currently out of.

After we ordered, we walked over to the bar area where the music is loud and there’s plenty to drink. The tables are long and there are different varieties of mustard to choose from, Whole Grain Mustard, Spicy Mustard, Dijon Mustard, and Honey Mustard.

There’s loud music and a rowdy crowd but it was all fun. There were a bit of 80s jam and also hip hop jams from the 90s. The bar menu has good selection of beer. The beer is usually served in their actual brand beer glass and mugs. There’s also a wine selection, but but I saw that on the menu up at the food counter.

I started off with “Hoegaarden” beer. You can never go wrong with this beer. I forget the name of the one “G” ordered. I need to take a notebook and write down the name of the beer..

I’m not sure if the name of the beer is really Weihenstephaner? I think it was just served in this glass. It was really good though, sour, tangy, and oh so yummy. I’m a big fan of sour beers.

Here’s the third beer we tried together. I can’t remember if it was a sour.

We couldn’t wait to get our food order and it took a while. Luckily we had beer to drink. “G” ordered the Smoked Hungarian $6.50 and I ordered the Hickory Smoked Wild Boar $8.50 along with a side order of Belgian Fries with Chipotle Aioli $$4.00.

Both were really good but I especially enjoyed the Hungarian much more. The whole grain mustard is awesome. We asked for pickles per the menu by request, but we never got it.

The Belgian fries were tasty and the Chipotle Aioli was sooo good. I like how it was actually spicy.

Here’s some cool comic book artwork at the women’s restroom! I thought this was super cool.
