Varsity Burgers is a hole in the wall joint in Anaheim CA, which is about 2.5 miles away from Disneyland. When you look at the sign, it doesn’t really grab your attention. It was game night at our friend’s home last week and friend “R” was slow roasting on the grill but then it took too long. Then friend “E” suggested we go here since it’ll be more convenient and plus she mentioned she wanted to go here for dinner one night.
When you step in here you can see why it’s called Varsity Burgers. There are varsity elements from all the Sports Illustrated Magazine Covers on the walls and you get a little bit of the 50s diner feel to it. Speaking of varsity I just had to look of what it really means. It basically represents a high school or college in sports or other competition!
If you happen to be an active athlete or just active, this is a great rewarding place for some good eats.
So anyways, as always I was excited to try a new place out and “G” has spoken about it many times. This was his to go place back in the day when he would help “E” and “R” remodel their backyard.
I checked their menu online and was surprised to see how much options they had. They have delicious sounding salad, breakfast items, burger combos, sandwiches, and Mexican food. I was having one of those salad cravings so I had to get it. It was either BLT or a salad and I ended up getting it after finding out that it comes with a side of pita bread! You should see how massive the Chicken Salad portions are. Topped with a lot of avocado, chicken, bed of ice burg lettuce, and tomatoes. I wish they mixed in some other green variety but it was tasty non-the-less.Sorry the pic above is a bit blurry as I took the picture when it was getting dark. I almost thought I couldn’t finish it but like a champ I was able to.
“G” ordered the Varsity’s 1/2 lb. Pastrami Sandwich and that was a massive portion for only $6.29 (are you out of your mind!?) Wish I could have captured a picture to show you guys. You could see the kitchen staff grabbing a whole lot of pastrami meat and stuffing it onto the buns.
Other unique sandwiches that are offered here are the Carne Asada, Chicken or Ham Torta, Tuna Melt on Rye, Chicken Cheddar Bacon Melt (yum…bacon), and Lamb or Chicken Gyros.
It’s worth mentioning that all their burgers are quarter lb with 1000 Island Dressing and costs around $4! There’s a good list of yummy tasting burgers on their menu such as Avocado and Swiss Cheeseburger, Western BBQ Burger, and for something a bit healthy there’s the Garden Burger.
We also ordered the Chili Cheese Fries and it comes in a large to-go container and is topped with awesome melted cheese. There are other popular side items like their onion rings and zucchini which are cut and breaded by hand. Varsity Burgers is located at 600 west Lincoln ave Anaheim, CA 92805.
