Have you ever saw Unusually shaped fruits and vegetables and wondered why that is? As I was rinsing my cherry tomatoes, I happened to see this “cheeky” tomato and I just had to take a picture of it. Then my curiosity kicked and I had to research why some fruits and vegetable are shaped unusually. When I was younger, my mom told me that her mother told her not to eat any oddly shaped fruits because it’s bad. Now I don’t know the answer to do, but what I do have is why that is caused. So according to Plant answers, the causes for these unusual vegetable shapes occurs because of inadequate pollination due to heat and other growing conditions which causes a part of the vegetable or fruit to not grow and develop properly.
Did you know that two fruits growing together is quite common? The picture below is an example of the “twin” and I’ve seen cherries with their twins attached to them.
Have you seen any unusually shaped fruits and vegetables? Did you eat them? If you see some interesting looking ones, come share! I’d love to see carrots with “legs”, the “albino” strawberry, the banana “twin”, or just funny looking ones that resembles anything! Japan radish farmers have already found the “running radish” who has become quite a sensation!
Strange shaped foods has become quite popular that people have tried to shape them on purpose. Many of you have probably heard about Japan and how they were able to grow square watermelons and the heart-shaped watermelons. I think I’d want to try the heart-shaped watermelon for Valentines Day 🙂
