After a day of eating hearty meals on the road,we were something that wasn’t too heavy and had the right amount of food on the place. We dropped by Taqueria Sanchez as we were roaming the streets of Jackson looking for a simple place to eat. This restaurant doesn’t stand out like the other restaurants in Jackson since it’s just a hole in the wall mom & pop’s restaurant. Bright dazzling lights are nowhere to be found here, but you will find that there are many selections on their menu. After disappointing experiences for Mexican restaurants in Jackson, we were somewhat skeptical of this place but it looked authentic.
The pork tacos were just the right size and the pork had the right amount of seasoning. You can choose from either the Red Hot or Mild Salsa, based on your preferences. I tried both and the Red Hot had more flavor and gave you that spicy good tingle.
The Chicken Taco Salad was tiny compared to all the others I’ve tried which are usually so big that I’m never able to finish it. Then it’s not worth taking it to go since the shell becomes soggy. That’s why I thought it was the perfect portion but I was hoping it was a larger serving with more chicken in it. The amount of beans and rice was very little as well.
From breakfast to dinner, they serve meal for any parts of the day. Breakfast items such as Huevos Ranchers & Breakfast Burritos are a filling way to start the day. There’s also just the regular burritos, fish tacos, plates such as enchiladas, carne asada, rice and beans, cheese enchiladas, tortas such as Cubana, Asada, Corizo Con Huevo and Chicken.
It’s nice to see that there’s also a vegetarian section called the “Vegetarian Lover” which are menu items such as the Veggie burritos, Veggie Tacos, Veggie Quesadilla, and Veggie Enchiladas. There’s even a Kid’s Menu for the kiddos. Make sure you try their Horchata which is a cinnamon type drink.
I’ve yet to try other Mexican restaurants here in Jackson, but so far, I would say Taqueria Sanchez Restaurant is the most authentic Mexican food.
