Sushi On Fire is seriously on fire because the place is packed with people lining up to get seated and when you look inside, it’s a happening place! It’s right on Main street in Huntington Beach and is a popular spot with many young people as well as the older crowd.
Don’t be intimidated by the owner who people know her as “big mama” yell at you. I was at first because she yelled “if all the people in your group is not here yet don’t come in!!” I couldn’t tell how my expression looked but I’m pretty sure it was that (O___O) shocked look. As I observed her, she was just a loud funny lady and that was the only way she could control the crowd and to make sure no one was blocking the walkway. She was even better at getting things straightened out than a club bouncer!
It was a chilly night and since we were so close to the beach, I was happy we started with free miso soup. Now it was time for the main dish! I tried the Spicy Tuna Roll which was quite delicious but also nothing too special about it. I whisked up the wasabi with the soy sauce and dipped the rolls in it.
“G” ordered the Tonkatsu Pork Noodles and he didn’t think they were too great. The noodles aren’t the kind you get at Shin Sen Gumi where you can select the hardness of the noodle.
The Chirashi Bowl was beautifully presented until I saw the rice. The bed of rice was seasoned with rice seasoning which didn’t look appetizing but it was really good. Overall, I thought the chirashi bowl was nothing special.
As for my birthday drink I ordered the White Zinfandel since “G” said it pairs well with seafood. It has a sweet taste like a dessert wine. I was sad it wasn’t sparkly but it paired perfectly with the sashimi.
Here are my gifts! I loved it all! I cannot wait to try drinking the Framboise and trying out the new Fujifilm Instax!
This blueberry cake I got for my birthday was light, fluffy, and delicious! I’m guilty of eating the cake with the green tea ice cream…so worth it though.
Would I recommend this place? Yes, I would if you want sushi but I wouldn’t recommend it if you want sushi that stands out. The place was too loud for me to even think and talk to my friends so that was kinda frustrating.
I would want to come back on a not so busy night or during lunch to beat the crowd. I would also like to try some of their well known dishes like Hello Kitty Hand Roll, HB Sun, and the Rice Crispy Spicy Tuna.
