During cold nights and even hot nights, udon always seems to be tasty. There’s a tiny udon restaurant inside the Mitsuwa Marketplace called the Sanukiseimen Mugimaru. When I first came here, I didn’t know you had to pick up a tray and but the staff nicely mentioned that we had to pick one up. Once you pick up your tray, just decide which soup and noodle you want and the staff will put it together for you and then you slide down the cafeteria line to pick and choose from a variety of tempura.
There are various tempura ranging from $1 to $3 such as the fried chicken (which is a MUST!), sweet potato, kabocha squash, shrimp, squid, eggplant, vegetable and onion.
Don’t forget to add the green onion and add the tempura flakes if you’d want that extra crunch! Once you got everything you just pay at the register which is at the end of it all.
The beef udon broth is very flavorful and quite oily to my surprise but delicious non-the-less. The beef is also very flavorful and very tender. I haven’t tried their other dishes but they offer dishes like the Tonkotsu, Kijoyu udon served cold, curry udon, chicken udon, ontama bukkake udon, kake udon, and many more!
So if you’re craving something other than ramen and want a cheap lunch of dinner, drop by Sanukiseimen Mugimaru where dishes typically range from $4.50 to $6.50. And be warned this place only takes cash!
Sanukiseimen Mugimaru is located at 665 Paularino Ave Costa Mesa, CA 92626 inside the Mitsuwa food courts.
