By the time you make it to Avalon CA from the Catalina Flyer, you’re probably already ready for breakfast. You either grab something in Newport Beach while waiting in line such as coffee, donut, pastry, or bagel, or you wait until you get to the island and see what there is to eat. That’s exactly what “G” and I did. We were hungry but glad we waited.
The first breakfast joint we noticed was a pancake house but decided to take an even longer walk along the main street to see what other places might pop up. Then we spotted this place called Original Jack’s Country Kitchen. Then we noticed a group of people waiting outside for a restaurant called Original Jack’s Country Kitchen. The wait was only about 15 minutes but as you wait, there’s a menu outside for you to check out.
Original Jack’s Country Kitchen is my kind of place, especially if you have country and kitchen in the name. Doesn’t it just sound so nice? To me I imagine fresh farm chicken eggs, country style cookin’, fresh food, and homemade meal. Just wait until you get inside and notice a lot of things to look at all around you. This joint do serve cage -free range hens, Jidori free-range chicken, and features Niman Ranch Brand™ which is beef and pork that’s humanely raised, no added hormones, and is all natural free range.
We got the counter seat so we noticed a lot going on in the kitchen as well as all the decorations around the restaurant. The decor is bright and will make you feel like you’re in a small town with the liveliness of everything that’s going around you. The staff are friendly, people are happy when they get here and even happier when they leave after their stomachs are full. Plus the restaurant smells like coffee and there’s plenty of Mimosas and desserts.
I can see why they have the “Country” in the name since this table mat is a coyboy.
Ahem, I am guilty of drinking coffee before I went on the Catalina Flyer BUT I just couldn’t resist Kona Coffee.
This place is all about Kona Coffee. It’s dark, rich, and like the sign above states “Coffee…chocolate…and men…some things are just better rich! Hah this was one of the funniest things I’ve read.
I’ve always been a breakfast person and I love pancakes or waffles so of course I had to get pancakes. Oh and of course it had to come with a side of bacon. The pancake was perfectly brown and the bacon was nice and crispy. You get plenty of soft butter that spread nicely on the pancakes. The syrup is unusually light than what I was used to but I like how it wasn’t overly sweet. If you wanted to, you could even dunk a piece of your pancake into your coffee.
“G” ordered the Country Breakfast and is a plate full of protein such as bacon. sausage, ham, and egg so you see why there’s a side note (high protein).
I don’t know about you guys but I think this is the most beautiful biscuit and gravy I’ve ever seen. You can see the pepper and spice speckles on the gravy and has a stunning golden color to it. Gravy is normally not my kind of food but this gravy and biscuit is a must try!
