It was only recent that I learned of an event called Oktoberfest. The only thing I knew about it was that it was a place to enjoy German beer and food but never knew anything else. Oktoberfest 2014 in Huntington Beach CA is a great place to start your Octoberfest adventures. What’s Oktoberfest anyways? It’s a German festival with live music from German bands straight from the country. Enjoy traditional German polkas, German beer, German food, liquer shots, and just about everything German. Once you’re here discovering the Old World Village, you’ll feel like you’re in Germany since the style of the village is authentic Bavarian Village style with actual homes on the second floor.
This German festival is held at the Old World Restaurant located in Huntington Beach CA that goes on for 6 weeks and has been a tradition for many decades. Not only is it for beer lovers, but is also family friendly. It’s an event for everyone from moms, teens, kids, and dog lovers! There are Dachshund wiener-dog races perfect for the whole family! Who can resist adorable wiener dogs 🙂 Races are every Sunday from 3pm to 4pm.
Get in line quick to get your drink and meal tickets!
Expect to pay quite a lot for drinks and food so be sure to keep a lookout for Groupon deals, but unfortunately this Saturday was the last day for the deal.
“G” and I met up a few friends after we found out that Groupon was having a deal which ended on Saturday 09/27/14 which comes with two large beer of your choice from the selection and also two Bratwurst meal.
The line for the food gets long pretty quick so make sure you’re in line!
There’s a lot of great sounding German meals on the menu and I really wanted the 1/4 chicken with mashed potatoes but since we get the Bratwurst on a roll, I had no choice but to get it.
Check out the Bratwurst place! It’s sausage made with veal, pork, or beef. Be sure to get it with a big side of sauerkraut which is pickled cabbage with pairs perfectly with any German meal. The meal was delicious. I’m not a big sausage fan but the Bratwurst was good as well as the roll. The sauerkraut was my favorite because it was warm, tangy, and sour. I find it quite similar to Korean kimchi except it’s not spicy.
There was no seats to sit down at when we got to the entertainment area because majority of the tables were either taken or reserved but the staff noticed us looking for seats and told us we could sit at the reserved spot to eat dinner. That was so nice of them! Plus we got the perfect seating to checkout the entertainment.
After dinner, these German sweets will be sure to grab your attention. There was something I took notice instantly which was what one of the bakery girl called the “German churro”. Brilliant! I couldn’t have said it better myself. I just called it the “Twisted bread thing with powdered sugar…”.
My friend “E” got the Apple Pie and enjoyed it.
And I ordered the German pretzel! I just love pretzel.
Octoberfest at Old World is located at 7561 Center Ave. Huntington Beach, California. Old World is hard to spot but keep a lookout for the globe of the world and the shopping center called the Bella Terra. You can park at the mall or at Old World parking lot but just know it’ll be full really quick!
