There’s something about green tea that draws me in. From green tea Kit Kat, tea leaves, latte, Pocky, matcha powder and ICE CREAM! So when I discovered there’s a new Japanese ice cream shop located inside of the Mitsuwa Marketplace called MATCHA Love, I knew I just had to try it. Matcha means Green Tea in Japanese and it seems like everything can be turned into green tea with the matcha powder.
Matcha Love by Ito En is a new ice cream shop located inside the Mitsuwa Market Place in Costa Mesa and serves delicious ice cream, coffee, and shakes. Be sure to have cash as they only take cash. The prices are decent, $3 a scoop (small) and $4 for a large. Customer service is great and the serving portions are generous. But now that I’m looking at my Triple Ice Waffle Bowl serving, it’s pretty tiny compared to the other pictures on Yelp. I’m disappointed now… but happy I tried the delicious flavors.The three ice cream flavors are all creamy and smooth with distinct flavor intensity.
For the “cant’t make up your mind” individual, try the Triple ice waffle bowl is the one for you as it comes with a swirl of matcha, black sesame, vanilla or hoji-cha ice cream for $4.75.
My #1 favorite would have to be the Black Sesame because it has a nutty peanut butter like flavor. #2 would be green tea and last would be vanilla.
At Matcha Love, there are soft serve ice cream in numerous tea flavors such as matcha, black sesame, vanilla and hojicha. They also offer boba tea, hot tea, shakes and tea lattes and retail products like cans of matcha powder. There’s even a refrigerated case of their bottled drinks such as green tea in a bottle or can.
“G” and I tried the three flavor sampler in a waffle cone. The waffle bowl contains vanilla, matcha, and black sesame. Unfortunately I wasn’t able to try the hojicha which tastes like brown rice tea.
