Hey everyone, happy Monday….I know most of you aren’t looking forward to it but lets make the best of it. Did you feel the earthquake on Friday and Saturday?? My friends and I were at the restaurant when we felt the shake on Friday but I didn’t feel the one on Saturday. That was the main talk today as people were asking if they felt it or not.
But enough about the earthquake! Llike I mentioned on Friday I’d share with you all my uni (sea urchin) experience at Maruhide Uni Club.
Let me tell you a story about Uni and I. It was back in 2009 when I first tried this interesting Japanese delicacy. The looks of it didn’t interest me and neither have the taste as I tried it for the first time. The texture was not like anything I’ve ever tasted nor the flavor. It tasted very “sea-ish” l and did not like it or dared trying it again until last year. My friend insisted I give it a try again and so I did. As Foodwanderer, I must try it again and who knows I might like it which was exactly what happened!
My friend “H” suggested that the #10 uni bowl was a good choice and I took her advice. It was overwhelming since everything on their menu just sounded good. The uni was buttery, nutty, and melts in your mouth and you can just tell it was super fresh. There was so fishy aftertaste. What I enjoyed most about the dish was that I got a little bit of everything.
“G” doesn’t like seafood so I was worried there would most likely not be anything for him to choose from. Perhaps getting the cream pasta without the uni would be an option but thankfully they had the beef tongue on the menu! It was a tiny portion but it was just the right amount since each bite was just unbelievable. The sent of the dish reminded me of beef stew and the tongue was so tender and melts in your mouth as if it was in the slow cooker for many hours. It’s definitely a must try and what makes it unique that the delicious dish is found at the most unlikely of places.
Be sure to try their NIGIYAKA BOWL, they can make so many different types of food with sea urchin. Everything was really delicious and fresh. Everything on the menu is recommended. Urchin pasta, urchin soup, urchin salad, urchin pizza, urchin udon, urchin sushi (of course)…
Fun times @ the local karaoke
After we went to go eat, we went to the karaoke bar and had a blast. Below are all the drinks we had 🙂
