When I first got into the corporate world, that’s when I grew accustom to having coffee in the morning. It wasn’t because of the effect of the caffeine, but it was because I started to gradually like the taste of coffee. At first, I would just drink the instant coffee with the sugar and creamer already mixed in the packet since plain coffee was just too bitter for me. Then little by little, I actually started enjoying plain dark coffee along with a sweet pastry or muffin which balanced out the sweetness and bitterness.
Every time I stepped foot in the office, I smelled the coffee and saw that my co-workers went on their coffee breaks to have a cup of Joe. Coffee is a morning routine for me, meaning that it’s another morning you’re looking forward to, to talk to people, or just enjoy some quiet time to yourself.
My love for coffee grew gradually before I knew about the hipster coffee scene. Coffee places like Coffee Code, Portola Coffee Lab, Cafe 7th is where I began my hipster coffee journey, but I would have to say there’s nothing wrong with that. I love a good cup of Joe with beautiful latte art.
When Starbucks really gained popularity by the hipsters, a swarm of companies hopped onto the bandwagon and started offering coffee on their menu such as McDonald’s where I heard many people say that it’s as good as Starbucks and not too expensive. I rarely go to Starbucks or Coffee Bean & Tea leaf, but if I do, I’d rather go to a mom and pops kind of place like Dolce or a place where you get cool looking latte art.
I’m not picky when it comes to coffee nor do I know every last details on how to brew the perfect cup or how the dripping process works. I’m no coffee snob but I’d love learn at least the basics on how to make good coffee and it’s just good to know the type of coffee like cappuccino, latte, café au lait, and so forth.
My boyfriend showed me an interesting coffee article on how to Be a B+ Coffee Snob where you don’t have to be a perfectionist barista, but least to able to make good coffee for yourself. Also, you can save a lot by cutting down your visit to Starbucks, Coffee Beans & Tea Leaf, and McDonald’s.
So are we coffee snobs or coffee lovers? You be the judge.
