Last Saturday, “G” and I went to Bosscat Kitchen and Libations to celebrate a friend’s birthday. With I name like that, I never would’ve guess this joint serves Southern dishes. This place is also a lounge with a bar in the center of the restaurant and blasts music really loud. I suggested this to my friend, why? Because it happens to be a popular joint in Newport Beach CA and seemed like a cool place to have a birthday gathering. But let me tell you, if you’re thinking you’ll be getting quality chit chat time, think again because you literally have to yell to hear the person next to you. The night we went was super busy and there was even a live DJ performing.

Bosscat Kitchen And Libations Black Eyed Pee Fritter Panini $12[/caption]
For dinner, choose from Classics from the South such as Chicken Fried Steak, Parmesan Crusted Meatloaf, Rock Shrimp & Grits, Bosscat Burger made with midwest beef, Barbecue Porchutta Sandwich, Fried Oysters, & Whisky Scorched Okra.
I ordered the Black Eyed Pee Fritter Panini $12 which is deep-fried black-eyed pea dumpling with spicy harissa greek yogurt, pickles, lettuce, tomatoes & onions. Totally suggest this sandwich, it's SO good and the portion is just right.

Bosscat Kitchen And Libations Cajun Brick Chicken, Carolina Dirty Rice $17[/caption]
Here's the Cajun Brick Chicken, Carolina Dirty Rice $17 which is on the pricey side as well as on the small side but it's a tasty dish if you're into spicy food. The rice is especially spicy because of all the spices and seasoning. The chicken is tender and free range which is then cooked with a brick weight to make the skin extra crispy. Then the whole plate is topped off with a fried egg.

We were all amused by this Light bulb salt and pepper shakers! Isn't that so cool? But of course it's not really made of the actual bulbs hehe.
