If you’re hungry for lunch, head over to Big Belly Deli, where they’re “Building Better Bellies”. There are two locations, one in Newport Beach, CA and Costa Mesa CA. We went to the one in Costa Mesa and is a small little deli, hole in the wall, and parking is a tight squeeze, but doable.
The Big Belly Deli in Costa Mesa has a beach feel to it as the menu board is colorful, there’s a picture of a paddle boarder, and just feels like you’re at the beach. At least the one in Costa Mesa. The one in Newport better make you feel like you’re at the beach since it’s at the beach.
There are many Big Belly Sandwiches to choose from. Choose your sandwich and pick your side where you get a choice of Macaroni Salad, Potato Salad, Baked Beans, Cole Slaw, Dorritos, Lays, or Dirty Chips. And if you choose to add avocado or bacon to any sandwich, that’s an extra .75 cents. “G” ordered the Pastrami Reuben with a side of Cole Slaw and loved it. Out friend “T” also ordered it. It is hot pastrami served on a grilled rye bread, topped with Swiss chceese, Thousand Island dressing and cole slaw.
When I saw BLT, I just had to get it. I can’t seem to say no to crispy bacon even though Iwanted to try something different and unique. But I couldn’t help myself. The BLT was really good. I normally get any BLT without mayo but this place didn’t add too much so it added a balanced mayo flavor. There were lots of lettuce and yummy crispy bacon. The toast wasn’t too impressive looking because Ithought it was just plain wheat bread but it was actually squaw bread which was slightly sweet and really good! What is squaw bread? It’s bread made of rye and molasses and created by Germans. No wonder it was sweet and really brown in color!
Not only are there sandwiches but also Big Belly Pizza. There are three sizes and you can add up to five + toppings like artichoke hearts, salami, olives, red tomatoes, cilantro, pineapple, meatballs, red onions, pepperoni, bacon bits, garlic, and the list just keeps going!
For something little, order their Pizza Bites $3.50, Foccaicia Bread Pizza, sides like Garlic Bread, Grilled Cheese, PB& Jelly, or soups.
There are healthier options like Soups and Salads. There’s even Antipasto Salad and 1/2 Sandwich &Salad or Soup options.
As for drinks, there are regular fountains drinks, Domestic/ Import Beer, and also a few wine selections.
