Mexican Pastries You Need To Know About!

Marranitos

Hi everyone happy Tuesday! Over the weekend I enjoyed some delicious Mexican pastries from the Ranch Market while grocery shopping. The market had their own panadería (bakery) section full of goodies! These pastries just brought back memories of my childhood because I remember when my parents would always buy Mexican pastries like the conchas or ones that were packaged.

Before we went on our hike Sunday morning at Santiago Canyon, we sampled almost each and every one of them for breakfast =D I didn’t feel guilty since we were going to burn it all off from the hike anyways! I had coffee with mine and “G” had his with almond milk. Yummers!!

I really like all the pastries but I especially like the Marraitos which is the cookie shaped like a pig. Isn’t it so CUTE? I expected it to be sweet but it wasn’t and after the first bite I thought I just bit into a gingerbread cookie. But of course it would be a gingerbread pig instead!

I really enjoyed the strawberry pound cake. I knew I’d like it when I first saw it because of the strawberry and cheese swirl. It was must sweeter than the others but it was perfect with bitter coffee as it balanced out the sweetness. Mmm I’m craving some now!

Conchas
Conchas

These conchas probably the more well know pastries. Do you know why they’re called conchas? It’s because they resemble sea shells and in Spanish, conchas mean sea shell. These pastries were the ones my parents bought all the time and as a kid I would just peel off the topping and just eat that. It’s quite sweet and it’s no wonder the topping was my favorite part.

Cuernito

The cuernito basically is translated as “little horn” and is similar in shape to a croissant. But instead of being made from delicate pastry, it’s made as a sweet bread. It isn’t flaky or buttery like the typical croissant but it more like bread with the sweet topping.

I hope you enjoyed the post about these yummy Mexican sweets. Have a good day all =D
